On the night of August 20, China experienced an unprecedented disconnection from the global internet that lasted more than an hour. According to the Great Firewall Report research group, the incident was caused by testing of new equipment as part of the state censorship system known as the Great Firewall of China.
For 74 minutes, internet traffic from Chinese residents to the key TCP port 443, used for secure HTTPS connections, was completely blocked. This led to the collapse of many digital services: users were unable to access foreign websites or cloud platforms whose servers are located outside the country. The disruptions even affected the services of major international corporations such as Apple and Tesla.
This incident clearly demonstrates how fragile a company's digital presence can be if its infrastructure depends on political decisions or technological failures in one specific region.
What should businesses prepare for in the new reality?
The events in China are not an isolated case, but part of a global trend. Companies are increasingly facing risks of geo-blocking, censorship, sudden changes in internet regulation, and targeted cyberattacks on critical infrastructure.
Your website and services may become unavailable to your own audience due to decisions that you cannot control.
Working with cloud solutions may be disrupted if their key servers are geographically tied to a risk zone.
Losing access to data and project management for even a few tens of minutes can result in serious financial and reputational losses.
How to protect your digital business?
The key principle of protection is risk diversification and choosing a reliable technology partner whose infrastructure guarantees uninterrupted operation.
ATLEX offers a range of solutions for those who value stability and predictability:
- Virtual and physical servers in Russia. Host your projects in a modern Russian data center that operates within a legal framework that is clear and predictable for Russian businesses. You will be protected from sudden international disruptions and blockages.
- Own Virtual Data Center. Gain complete control over your IT infrastructure: from load balancing between servers to creating your own fault-tolerant clusters. An outage in another country will not affect the availability of your services to customers.
- Colocation. Host your own equipment in our Tier III data centers. We will provide uninterrupted power, cooling, and secure communication channels, while you retain full control over your hardware.
- A platform for backup and mirroring. Create a mirror of your project on our servers so that in case of problems on the main site, you can quickly switch traffic to the backup without data loss or downtime.
Don't let external circumstances affect your business. Choose solutions that provide maximum accessibility and control.
