Goznak expands its Moscow facilities: a data center for 1,500 racks is being built

Federal State Unitary Enterprise Goznak has started construction of a new data processing center (DPC) in Moscow. The facility will have a capacity of 1,500 racks, which is almost four times the current capital capacity of the enterprise. The opening is scheduled for the end of 2026 - beginning of 2027 in the Tsaritsyno district. The area of the building is about 35 thousand square meters.

This step is dictated by the general growth of data volume in Russia and the need for reliable solutions for data storage and processing. Goznak, traditionally known as a key player in the field of security and production of protected products, is actively developing its IT business. The new data center will enable the company to work more efficiently with information and offer services not only to the public sector, but also to large businesses.

Context and current capacity:

  • As of June 2025, Goznak has two almost fully occupied data centers: in Moscow (Tier III, 2,400 sq m, 5.2 MW, 370 racks) and St. Petersburg.
  • The new facility will more than double the company's total capacity.
  • Goznak is positioned as a new player in the commercial data center market (16th place in Russia as of June 2025), offering both classic colocation and cloud services (goznak.cloud, private clouds).
  • According to iKS-Consulting, at the end of 2024, Goznak's capacity was 840 racks (1% of the all-Russian data center market). The new data center will add 1,500 racks, which is equivalent to about 2.4% of the Moscow market.

Development plans and investments:

  • By the end of 2025, Goznak plans to start offering services for external customers.
  • In 2025, the company will invest RUB 400 million in IT infrastructure for working with artificial intelligence (AI), in particular for the development of two products:
    1. To record the meetings.
    2. To create images to design medal and jewelry products for mints (using AI trained on specialized high quality databases).

Market forecasts and expert estimates:

  • Experts (IPG.Estate) note that at the end of 2024, there were 194 data centers in Russia with a total capacity of 3.6 GW (as of February 2025). The Moscow market is growing by an average of 10 thousand racks per year.
  • According to iKS-Consulting forecasts, by 2028 the Russian market of commercial data centers may grow 2.1 times (up to 148 thousand racks), and in monetary terms — 2.8 times (up to 121 billion rubles) against the background of digitalization of the economy and demand growth, including in the regions.
  • Experts see government agencies (Rosreestr, Federal Tax Service, Ministry of Finance) and corporations with critical information infrastructure (Rosatom, Rostelecom, Gazprom) as well as cloud providers, telecom operators and retailers forming the main demand for data center services as the main potential tenants of Goznak's new data center capacity.
